I think that kind of experience is actually pretty typical in the Portland, OR area from everyone I talked to.The Classic Ausangate Trek 5 days 4 nights The bike fit me that good and the dude that sold it to me, who is not a fitter, sees enough and has done it enough, that he dialed it perfectly the first time. Didn't change anything other then my cleat position. I finally broke down and got a fit fit even though I have no real issues. When I bought my last bike they did a visual check, did some minor adjustments, and sent me off. Unless the bike is way off some guys really can fit you pretty quickly. When we bought mrs gearboy's bike, they spent about 45 minutes getting the fit adjusted. I consider the second to be a reasonable level of service, and the first is why those shops never really became much of a LBS for me. It was "stand over the top tube - looks like it fits. What do you mean by a "basic fitting"? As I have posted elsewhere, my first two "serious" bikes that I bought included no actual fitting. So bottom line.when you buy a $1k-$5k bike, you're not supporting your LBS as much as you think you are.
TREK 5200 PRO
If they give you the pro fit right off the bat.the chances of you coming back are less. If they give you a basic fit.you are pretty much good to go.but after riding for about 6 months, you may decide to come back and pay for the pro fit. While they should include some of that other stuff with a purchase of a bike, this is done more so to get you in the habbit of coming back to the shop.įree tune ups usually means that when you come in for your tune up, you may also buy some spare tubes, C02, a new bottle, and some new bar tape. Don't get me wrong, I will always support the LBS, but come on man!īecause your LBS makes little to nothing on the sale of a bike. I have always had a little bit of a problem with that. I think for that kind of money, the least they could do is fit us properly for the bike. How is it that we support our LBS and spend $1-$5k on a bike (sometimes more ) and all we receive is a "free basic fitting". Without those two factors, you're better off buying from a private seller or shopping around online. IMO, those are the two reasons that you should buy any bike from a LBS.
